A true veteran of New Zealand fly fishing, Neil Hirtzel has represented New Zealand in many international competitions and has been guiding for over a decade.
Neil left New Zealand in his early twenties, living and working overseas for eight years and travelling to some 30 plus countries. He returned home in 1970 and started fly-fishing. This quickly became his major sporting interest.
His wealth of experience as a North Island fly fisherman is at your service on guided fishing trips out of Auckland. Neil tailors trips to your needs, timeframe and budget - from day trips to overnight or multi-day trips.
One great option is to fish the Waikato spring creeks as you travel south to the Taupo or Rotorua fisheries.
A builder by trade, Neil also has an architectural draughting diploma and returned to his trade after working at New Zealand for 20 years.
An honorary life member of the Auckland Freshwater Anglers Club, Neil organises the annual Auckland Regional fly fishing contest.
He is married to Marilu and is a great Dad to Natasha, Galina, Zane as well as being a grandfather to Izabella. Other interests include Rugby league, Cricket, travel and rod building.
